On the Inventory but Not a Landmark/Landmark District

If your project involves a single-family home that is NOT a City Landmark or located in a City Landmark District, but IS listed on the City's Historic Resources Inventory, you must apply for a Single-Family House Permit instead of an HP Permit, Adjustment, or Amendment.

Regarding fees, proposed work that conforms with the Your Old House: Guide for Preserving San José Homes guidelines is eligible for an easier administrative review process and a reduced permit fee (“Historic Administrative”). If your project doesn’t qualify for administrative review, then it will go through a public hearing process that requires fees to cover public noticing of the hearing and preparation of the project documents for the hearing. See the fees listed on the Planning Applications page.

If the house or site IS a landmark or in a landmark district, you must apply for an HP
